By | November 25, 2013

Oil pulling is a very old tradition first mentioned in Ayurvedic medicine processes which is a traditional alternative medicine from India. In the Ayurveda, it was called Kavala Gandoosha, or Kavala Graha, which means oil pulling or oil swishing. It was considered by the Indian natives in oil pulling history as being beneficial to the oral health of those who used this practice as well as treat some of the systemic diseases. Oil pulling simply means that the person who practices this tradition swishes oil around in his/her mouth for about 20 minutes to remove bacteria, parasites, and other unhealthy microbes within the oral cavity.

Although a very old practice, this oil pulling history has been rediscovered in the past few years, becoming a relatively well-known practice for those who wish to improve their oral health. Studies on the technique of oil pulling have shown many wonderful benefits regarding the prevention of oral plague, gingivitis and halitosis.

In India, oil pulling has a very rich history – more than 3000 years of practicing this ancient ritual. It has quickly become more and more popular across the world and should soon become a subject for scientific studies because people, especially scientists, want to know whether this practice from alternative medicine is as effective as believed by the Indian people.

Today, oil pulling is used as a treatment which combines the Ayurvedic medicine with the modern science to help improve and maintain oral health. There has been plenty of research regarding this traditional medicine practice and scientists have proven the many benefits using scientific case studies. The best features of this ancient technique includes that it is completely safe for use and poses almost zero expenses on the person who practices it.

Oil pulling offers only great benefits as one of the oldest and effective practices from the historic Ayurvedic medicinal techniques. Choose any edible oil to experience these amazing benefits such as sesame oil, coconut oil, vegetable or canola oil, and even virgin olive oil, although olive oil is rather strong and not as widely used for that reason.

Today oil pulling continues to grow in circles across the world as more and more people are beginning to use it for their everyday healthy habits while enjoying the savings of not having to purchase widely used oral care products.
